Runway Recap // Part One

NYFW - Mara Hoffman FW 2015

So I’ve recaped a lot of my own NYFW outfits for you (last seen here, here and here), but wanted to give you a glimpse into some of the shows and presentations I fawned over while in NYC. So what better way to start than with one of my favorites, Mara Hoffman. Her show took place on a particularly gloomy and snowy NYC day, so it was a breath of fresh air to see winter white, her usual geometric prints (albeit, more subtle than the graphics she usually uses) and beautiful boho-like dresses that screamed anything but I am bundling up for winter and walking outside in a negative five degree windchill’. I was especially fond of the styling; the models’ hair was done in variations of gorgeous milkmaid like braids that wrapped around their heads almost like ethereal crowns. Albeit not entirely wearable for everyday, the fuzzy, alpaca like colored coat was one of my favorites. Perhaps it was the colors that popped so well against the model’s skin and the black underneath, but that my friends I would’ve willingly snatched right off the runway and put on for my walk outside back to our hotel after the show…. if I were just a little bit taller! So while it’s still freezing outside, let’s take a moment to appreciate some of Mara’s current RTW collection available now: loving this printed circle dress perfect for a Mexican beach getaway, or this embellished navy maxi dress.

NYFW - Kate Spade FW 2015

I wasn’t invited to the Kate Spade presentation, but that didn’t mean I was going to stalk the heck out of Instagram and all the socials of my blogger pals who were at the presentation, in between my meetings throughout that morning. I had experienced a special visit to the Kate Spade Madison Avenue flagship store (more here & here) just the day before, so I had reason to not be too disappointed in not seeing the looks in person. A particular phrase came to mind when I looked at the presentation photos, “Mad for Plaid”. Of course, we’ve been seeing a lot of 60s-70s inspired looks on the runways, in editorials, etc. But I was quite impressed with what Kate Spade had dreamt up. It was playful meets chic and preppy all in a good way. I felt too that it was a bit more mature than the usual Kate Spade we see, often print-clad and brightly colored. However, I really want to get my hands on quite a few pieces from this collection, especially the coats. I love a good winter cream, especially against my skin tone, and that first fur collared number is divine. I at times tend to be weary of the midi skirt (I’m only 5’3!) but these plaid numbers are rather iconic. Of course, it wouldn’t be Kate Spade without the perfectly playful cocktail dress, and the bow-backed number was just that! I also really loved the pairing of stacked, embellished heels with the dress too. Love this color-blocked cocktail dress currently available (and now on sale), I picked it up while at the store in NYC!

Zimmerman FW 15 - NYFW

One word: obsessed. Zimmermann got me good. The wide leg, high-waisted pants, the fringe, the wide-brim hats. Everything I love and would hope to be clad in when it’s fall and temps are beginning to cool off. The nips at the waist, with a belt to make it that much more defined, plus the giveaway to flared hemlines at the pant legs, too good. The eye for fabrics also had me wowed – lace, chiffon, silks – talk about serious beauty all combined into a collection without over doing it. I went to the University of Texas so of course anything with a burnt orange hue immediately catches my eye, but sometimes it can be too much. Zimmermann was obviously not designing with the UT fan in mind, but the cutout top and those high-waisted pants are simply divine. The way pieces moved down the runway were just magical. The fringed number is at the top of my list – seriously tres chic! I also really loved the pastel-toned pant suit with the lavender jacket. I got a little J.Crew vibe from it (not complaining here), but together as one or as separates those two pieces were Alex approved and wardrobe ready to my closet come fall. Shop the latest RTW collection here. This coral pair of stovepipe pants are calling my name.

I’ll be back in a few days with another addition to the NYFW/MBFW recap madness, including some of my favorites from my time there! In the meantime shop some of the current RTW pieces for spring and summer below. Have a good weekend!
