New York Fashion Week, NYFW

NYFW Runway Recap SS16 // Part Two

NYC - Alexandra Carreno photography*Photo by Alexandra Carreno

Back for the second installment of my NYFW Runway Recaps and thoughts on shows from day two and three of Fashion Week. My second day of Fashion Week was kind of a crazy one, I bounced around to quite a few shows and a presentation (you can see my SS16 Part One recap here). However, I wouldn’t change the crazy day for anything as it was so fun and I seriously felt in my element!

Picking up from the last recap, after the Kate Spade presentation, I had to make a choice between two designers whom I seriously adore: Zimmermann and Idan Cohen. I ultimately chose to attend Idan Cohen because I had attended his first-ever showing at Fashion Week last season and fell in love with his designs. (Don’t worry, I’ll still bring you up to speed on Zimmermann!)Idan Cohen NYFW SS16 Runway Recap - Girl Wonder Life*Photos via NYFW.com

Again this season, Idan Cohen did not disappoint. Picking up right where he seemingly left off with his FW15 collection, the designs and frocks were hand beaded, embellished perfectly and offset by floaty ethereal chiffons and silks that glided down the runway with the model. 60s silhouettes were in full swing mixed with subtle pastels; a few crop top numbers, flared pant hems and little playsuits that didn’t leave much to the imagination but were in good taste with a pastel duster thrown over. An Idan Cohen gal can definitely hold her own, the models had simple waves and natural makeup, speaking to the dresses and their beauty instead. I said it last season, and I’ll say it again, Idan Cohen gowns are fit for a red carpet! Stylist, you better get to pulling!! Zimmermann SS16 NYFW - Girl Wonder Life*Photos via Vogue.com

As I mentioned, my schedule conflicted (the worst; NYFW – please don’t do that to me again!!) so I couldn’t make it to the Zimmermann show, but that didn’t mean that I admired all of the pieces in photos soon after. There were definitely elements from periods past, intertwined into the SS16 collection, high collars and necklines, lace sleeves and pearled details. However, instead of getting caught up back in the 1800s, the collection had a sense of modernity to it. Picture a glamorous Australian (the designer is Australian-based) atop the steps of the Sydney Opera House for a dramatic backdrop and you get my drift. There’s no shame here in saying that I am 100% on Zimmermann‘s fan wagon and seriously need a handful of their pieces for my spring wardrobe. Until then, I will take this insanely chic black jumpsuit and this cobalt blue dress fit for so many occasions in my life! Betsey Johnson SS16 NYFW - Girl Wonder Life*Photos by Lauren Anderson photography

By far the most eclectic show I made it to this season, (but would you expect anything less?) Betsey Johnson put on a seriously, at times, over-the-top show filled with flair, dancing models and celebration, an ode to Betsey Johnson‘s decade long presence in the fashion industry. There were a lot of ‘costumes’ perfect for the likes of Katy Perry on stage in front of millions of fans. For me, the most wearable pieces I saw were the 60s-esque silhouettes with mod inspired pinstripe suits and 90s flannel play on grunge.Betsey Johnson NYFW SS16 - Girl Wonder LifeBut needless to say, Betsey puts on a show and it was rather fun to be a part of it. All fun aside, Betsey still paid tribute to 9/11 with her models walking waving American flags at the finale, and of course the cartwheel into splits that Johnson is so known for, was oh so fun to see in person.Giulietta SS16 NYFW - Girl Wonder Life

After Betsey, which was in the main tent at Moynihan Station, I hopped in a cab down towards the Hudson to catch the Giulietta New York SS16 presentation at Pier 59 in Chelsea Piers. I had been looking forward to this show since it’d be in a smaller space, more intimate and I hadn’t really seen much of Giulietta’s designs before. Color me impressed, it was just the right amount of greens, cobalts, reds and whites for this tennis-loving and wannabe court star. Giulietta’s handouts claimed the models were machines, imagined as robots through with a panache for sports. The nods to the tennis court were most certainly there and the colors were divine. Form hugging dresses with taste and off the shoulder looks were still present for the season to come. I especially loved a Kelly green and cobalt blue piped cutout cocktail dress that had impeccable tailoring and screamed get in my closet!

I’ve still got more NYFW SS16 content coming your way, stay tuned!! xx
