The can be super overwhelming! As I mentioned earlier this week in my shopping tips and tricks, having a plan before shopping is essential. For me, it’s looking for the best closet staples and basics. Yes there are a lot of cute and on-trend items on sale, but I try not to let myself get too wrapped up in these items. Instead, my top buys at the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale 2017 are classic tops, jackets/sweaters and denim.

It’s still really hot here in Houston, and we won’t see any sort of relief for months. I’ve curated a list of items that can be worn now and later. Take the on-trend . Adorable for a date night now, paired with white jeans, and later paired with leggings and riding boots.

I also love how Parisian chic the is. It comes in blue too! Again, something that can be worn now, with a pair of white chino shorts or later in the year with dark skinny denim.

I said this last year and I’ll say it again. If you’re going to splurge, go for the items that are classic staples. In need of a new coat for the fall/winter months ahead? I cannot highly recommend enough a classic . I’ve had mine for a few years now, and it’s a tried and true staple in my closet. I wear it all the time in the cooler months and will continue for years to come. My dad has one too! See past posts where I style it, here and here.

When it comes to this year’s top buys at the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale 2017 in denim, I’m all about the . I snagged a pair last year, and I wore them so much. Definitely got my money’s worth! So this year, I’ve got my eye on yet another pair – the . I’ve also heard great things about denim, so I want to check out their sale pieces too.

You can never go wrong with grabbing a classic handbag or pair of shoes. I tend to opt for neutrals during this sale, things that I can build a wardrobe and closet around! Enter the everyday , they’re the best and so lightweight – rarely do you ever find them on sale, FYI. A is a classic, especially in the pebbled leather. I’m also liking this .

In terms of shoes, grab the while you can. These babies always fly off the shelves every single year. I really like the classic and chic, very equestrian-esque, style of this year’s Tory Boot. If you don’t like the logo, then I recommend these (I have a pair by the brand, they’re all waterproof, and so well made!) or this pair of , totally worth the splurge!

For me, I am absolutely loving the beauty offerings this year!
