One of the most common questions I receive during the fall months is how to tie a blanket scarf. So today I’m sharing a step-by-step picture tutorial as to how I most commonly go about tying my blanket scarf.
I’ve got the tie down to five easy steps, and once you practice in the mirror a few times, it’s really easy! I personally like to use a square sized scarf over a rectangle, and for all intents and purposes, this tutorial features a square scarf. Let’s get started!
Step 1: Open your blanket scarf in front of you and shake out to rid of any folds.
Step 2: Fold two ends of the scarf to make an upside-down triangle shape
Step 3: Take the ends you’re holding in each hand and bring them around your neck
Step 4: Pull both ends completely around your neck. As you’re pulling the front of the scarf will pull up and tighten too.
Step 5: Pull and tuck the ends around the back of the scarf front for a drape-look pictured above and you’re on your way!

I’ve had the conversation with multiple people that styling a blanket scarf is tough, and chances are it never really looks the same more than once. But if you follow these easy steps, you’ll get the handkerchief tie of the blanket scarf down pat.
The blanket scarf is a great way to add a little pop to an outfit, too. I wear a version of this ensemble multiple times in the fall and winter. What I love about this $11 blanket scarf is how festive it is for Thanksgiving – I’ll be wearing it for at least one of my family gatherings next week!

I’m totally lost on how to wrap a blanket scarf since I’m so short! They end up wearing me, but I like how you doubled it around to make it appear a bit smaller! Maybe that would work for me!
