Love for Texas

What are your favorite summer traditions? When the weather cooperates, I love having meals outside by the pool. Even though I wasn’t born and raised in Texas, this great state has become home away from home. There’s so much to love about Texas. So with the help of Ozarka Brand Spring Water I’ve put together a fun poolside BBQ meal filled with Texas’ finest locally sourced items.

One of my favorite BBQ spots in Houston is Rudy’s. Their moist sliced brisket is one of the most delicious things I’ve ever tasted. I highly recommend their potato salad too – it’s true to it’s name and not over-fluffed. Ironically I’m not a huge BBQ fan, but every once and awhile I crave it, especially in the summer.

Paired with Paqui Tortilla Chips as another side option (they’re seriously delicious! The Nacho Cheese Especial is my favorite), along with the potato salad, the brisket is so yummy and worth all the calories! I actually tried a little of the brisket with Snow’s BBQ Sauce – recently named the best in Texas by Texas Monthly – and all I can say is, wow!

Other BBQ joints I highly recommend in the greater Houston-area are Killen’s, in Pearland (absolutely worth every minute of the wait in line – mouthwatering!) and Goode Company BBQ which I grew up going to whenever we visited Houston (their Pecan pie is amazing).

I’m a huge proponent of supporting local brands – so this meal is all local! When we don’t grab BBQ on the go, we love to grill and the local-Texas marinades and sauces are perfect.

What are your favorite things to do during the summer in Texas? We also love to travel around the state. Austin and Galveston are some of our favorite day and weekend trips. We always bring along our Ozarka Brand Spring Water on road trips and to the beach to stay hydrated.
