Easy Summer Beach Waves

I admit I am no self-professed hair guru, so when I can achieve a hairstyle that is both easy and wearable, I’m all for it. Summer is about the ‘beach hair don’t care’ mantra, so today I’m here to share an easy beach wave how-to with the help of Sally Beauty.

My tousled tresses were easy to achieve with the help of only a few products. All you need is:

BTZ Beach Head Tropical Texture Fast-Dry Salt Spray

BTZ Turn Up The Heat Flat Iron Protection

BTZ Rock On Flexible Hold Hair Spray

Wide barrel curling iron (mine is 1 ½-inch barrel width)

Hairbrush & clip

The best thing about this easy hairstyle is it’s really low-maintenance and pretty easy to accomplish in 20 minutes or less, dependent on the length of your hair. As you can see, my hair is pretty long. I like to go for beach waves with day-old hair, air-dried (my natural hair is wavy) for better hold.I start with my natural, air-dried hair and then spray a few spritzes of the BTZ Turn Up The Heat Flat Iron Protection before beginning the curling process. I love how lightweight and non-greasy this heat protectant is; it leaves my hair both silky and ready for curling.

Insider tip: Always use some sort of heat protection on your hair before you blow dry, curl, straighten, etc., as it will save your hair from quickly drying out and from annoying split ends. Once my hair is protected from the heat, I go ahead and section it off, with the bottom layer loose to prepare for curling. I clip up the remainder for later. I’ll quickly brush out the ends and begin curling.

Insider tip: curl away from your face. It’s definitely hard to get the hang of this at first – I’m still trying to get the hang of it! However, if you have a few pieces that aren’t curled away from your face, that’s okay because it gives depth and variety to the beach wave look.I’ll continue around my head and then portion out the middle layer of my hair and do the aforementioned steps all over again. Once the middle layer is complete, I let down the top layer in select pieces.

Again, brush out the ends and curl away from the face one piece at a time. Sometimes it takes a little work to get the front pieces just right, but the great part about the beach wave look is that it’s meant to look messy. I have a layer of hair that’s shorter than the rest but it’s not exactly long bangs or anything, so for that specific piece I’ll get the barrel rather close to the roots and hold for a few seconds longer than my usual five seconds per piece. Specifically curling this piece away from my face helps with the tousled look. After my entire head of hair is curled, I like to run my fingers through the curls to loosen them out.

Insider tip: turn your head over and shake out your hair to loosen up the hair for looser waves.I’ll then take the BTZ Beach Head Tropical Texture Fast-Dry Salt Spray and spray it all over my hair, holding it about 15 inches away from my head. To better distribute this miracle product, I shake my head left and right lightly. The salt spray really achieves the beach wave look, if you ask me. All in all, it takes me about 20 minutes to achieve the perfect beach waves. As you can see, my waves are loose and have that look of ease to them.
