We’ve lived in our home for over three years now. Time sure does fly! It’s been fun to put our personal stamp on the space, but I’ll admit there are still some areas that could use some decor or a touch of detail. For me, one of those spots has been within our primary bedroom. I just never put aside the time to bring in some personalized details to make the space feel even more homey. Since we’ve been spending more time at home, I finally found the time to add the finishing touches to our primary bedroom.
Finishing Touches Primary Bedroom
One of my favorite parts of our primary bedroom is how tall the ceilings are, as well as the ample amount of wall space. But, I’ll be the first to tell you this fortunate fact has also been a nemesis. I’m by no means a trained interior designer, but I’ve always enjoyed dabbling in the industry. With that being said, I’ve always had ideas, but executing them has been a bit difficult. I tend to second guess myself! So let’s just say that the execution of wall decor never happened until now, because I was too nervous to commit! (Before photos, below).

A little backstory for you. When we moved in to our home, the first change we made was paint our primary a soothing color. I wanted it to be a space that would be calming from our crazy day-to-day routines. I ended up opting for Seattle Gray by Benjamin Moore. I had a hard time deciding between a subtle blue or gray wall shade, and ironically this color looks blue in some lights and gray in others. With the addition of bright white trim and plantation shutters (Sherwin Williams Extra White SW 7006), I decided to bring in accent colors in navy, white and neutral tan shades (namely our upholstered headboard), along with silver accessories.

The primary has always been one of my favorite rooms in our home. But, I’ve always felt like something was missing. With that, I decided to hone in on one thing I’ve felt comfortable with – picture frames. I researched a few different ideas on Pinterest, including key phrases like ‘bedroom gallery wall’ and ‘bedroom family photos’ to gather some inspiration,
At Home has always been one of my favorite, go-to decor stores because of the ample selection and great prices. If you can think of it, chances are At Home has it! Armed with ideas, I honed in on these matted frames in silver finish. Not only do they look more expensive than they are (under $20!), but they make it easy to hang with cardboard cutouts to hang initially as guidelines, meaning no more accidental holes from incorrect measurements.

To tie together my primary bedroom color scheme, I picked up these 20in White pillows with jute trim and these dark blue leaf print & tassel throw pillows.
I opted to print out black & white versions of some of my favorite family photos. I simply chose the photos and had them printed online at Mpix, and the prints were mailed to me a few days later.

Since the gallery wall is closest to my side of the bed, I know waking up each morning to these images will put a smile on my face. With the help of a leveler and the handy cutouts included with the frames, putting together the gallery wall was an absolute breeze! Definitely the easiest and best experience I’ve had hanging picture frames.

To tie the entire space together, I added throw pillows, a cozy woven throw blanket, some candles and a cute woven seagrass basket to pile our pillows and blanket in when we’re not using them.
The best part of adding the finishing touches to our primary bedroom, is how inexpensive the project was! All together I spent a little over $200 on the frames, throw pillows and other accessories.
I’m thrilled with how the space turned out and hope my little home project can inspire you to add the finishing touches to a space that’s lacking in your home! Catch my previous home project which I shared on the blog, organizing a small office closet, here.
