It’s pretty hard to believe we find ourselves in the midst of a global pandemic with stay at home mandates across our states. I’ve been struggling with what to share here on the blog during these unprecedented times, and I thought it fitting to bring back the coffee talk series.
Be honest, how are you feeling right now?
I’ll be the first to say I’m a mixed bag of emotions. Sometimes I have serious anxiety, other times it feels like this is all just a dream. With life as we know it coming to a somewhat screeching halt, it’s definitely been a huge eye-opener of how much I personally took for granted every single day. Venturing out to the grocery store unafraid, not fearing that everything I touch houses an untraceable virus, or worrying about the state of the economy.
The friends and family I’ve spoken with have all vocalized the same fears and anxieties. It’s just such a weird time.
But I just want you to know that you’re not alone!
I wanted to write this coffee talk to confirm to you that we are all in this together, even if you feel like you’re alone right now.
If I can give one bit of encouragement throughout all this, perhaps it’s relishing in the little things.
Now I understand why our dog get so excited to go out on a walk everyday! Our daily walks are a huge bright spot in my day. And seeing our neighbors out and about, kids playing in their yards and everyone waving and saying hello (at a respectable social distance), it’s really neat. I’ve personally never seen so many families outside in the morning, lunch or after dinnertime.
This entire debacle has also given me time to slowdown. To reach out to friends whom I haven’t had the time to talk to recently. To read those magazines that have stacked up on my countertop. To try out those recipes I previously dogeared in my cookbooks. I’ve even had the time to pick up a new hobby, needlepoint!
But above all else, I think this entire time has shown us that life is fleeting and so short. If I can give you a reminder: hug your loved ones, call and tell your parents you love them every single night. Cherish those quiet moments next to your significant other or children (although with kids, it may not be as quiet!).
There’s no question that we’re living through a time that will be written about in the history textbooks. We’ll tell our grandchildren about how people hoarded toilet paper and hand sanitizer.
And of course there will be plenty of hurt that comes from this pandemic, and undoubtedly much loss. But, hopefully these moments can become memories that we look back on somewhat fondly. The time we spent at home, slowing down, not spending every moment glued to a computer or a iPhone. But instead having a real conversation, working on a puzzle or gardening in the backyard.
I’m here to tell you, we will get through this!
And to be honest, I’ve had to remind myself this at least 10x a day.
But hopefully this little spot on the web can be an environment for you to escape, even if it’s just for a few minutes! I’d love to be there for you, even if it’s just to talk to someone. Simply shoot me an email. And if there’s anything you’d like to see here on the blog, let me know that, too! Sending love to each and every one of you! Stay well and stay strong.
