While we might be celebrating Mother’s Day a bit differently this year, that doesn’t mean you can’t still go all out with a beautiful Mother’s Day tablescape and meal! I wanted to share this colorful and preppy tablescape I put together, and hopefully it’ll put a smile on your face. Let’s chat about this easy and chic Mother’s Day tablescape, because I don’t know if you realize, but the occasion will be here before we know it!

As a little girl I remember my grandmother and mom pulling out the stops for all the holidays, when decorating the house and setting the table. With our formal dining room, Rick and I have been much more intentional about using the space. We actually use it quite a bit, and we love it. It’s a space where we put away our phones and actually talk to one another over a meal.
In preparation for Mother’s Day, I wanted to do a tablescape that not only made me happy, but also remained timeless each year we celebrate our moms. I initially think of lots of pink and pastels when it comes to Mother’s Day, but that color scheme isn’t really for me. Instead I opted for primary colors which could easily tie into my printed blue area-rug and neutral seating.

Primary colors always make me happy. And I feel like in creating my easy and chic Mother’s Day tablescape, a happy setup is both welcoming and memorable.
To provide a little texture to the table, I chose woven placemats. I know these will be used for years to come, as the neutral shade will go with so much. I actually opted for melamine dinner plates, since they’re not as heavy and will be versatile for future dinners and gatherings. Really, you could use your everyday dinner plates for a similar looking setting and instead just invest in the fun accent plates and napkins for a color pop.
Gingham is my obsession, and once I saw these blue gingham napkins, I knew I had to have them. Again, they’re a linen that I can use time and time again, so it wasn’t a purchase just for one use. In my opinion, if your budget is tight, go for some fun napkins – you can find them rather reasonable and in packs of 4 or 6 at places like or , to spruce up a tablescape on a budget.
Since my blue goblets and wine glasses (passed down from my grandmother) gave a little height to the place setting, I chose to balance things out with these traditional candlesticks that live on my dining room table all year around, along with different variations of height from the Gerber Daisy arrangement.
Pro-tip: pick up your blooms from Trader Joe’s (they’re by far the cheapest) and create your own bouquet. No need to spend the up-charge at your local grocery store for a pre-made mixed flower bouquet.
