A shirt can be remembered as the soft-looking one, the pale textured one or the one worn on a particular trip. None of those descriptions preserves its composition information. If that detail matters to a wardrobe record or a future comparison, keep it attached to the actual garment. A small accurate note is more useful than a confident material claim reconstructed later from an old outfit photograph.
Identify the shirt first
Use the garment's own label and reliable product information where available. Record enough identity to distinguish it from similar pieces. Two pale shirts may occupy the same rail while carrying different construction, composition and care information.
Keep the source clear. A label on the actual item and a general listing for a similar style are not automatically the same account. If you cannot establish that the product page describes this garment, do not silently borrow its specification.
Preserve the wording that matters
Record the composition as the source states it, including which component it describes if several are listed. A main fabric, trim and another part can carry different information. Do not reduce a mixed description to one familiar material simply because that word is easier to remember.
If a label is unclear, mark the uncertainty or obtain an appropriate explanation. Do not infer missing information from texture, colour or the way the shirt appears to hang. Visual observation can remain useful without becoming a technical identification.
Separate composition from personal experience
You may enjoy the shirt's feel or find it useful in your own routine. Keep that experience distinct from a promise about how another garment with a similar composition will behave. The percentage record does not establish identical construction, weight or suitability across every product.
Likewise, a photograph of visible texture does not prove a particular fibre content. A close image can support a styling reference while the factual record comes from the actual reliable source.
Keep care information connected
Retain the actual care instructions with the garment's identity. Composition alone is not a complete care method. Do not construct a universal washing or treatment routine from one recorded material and apply it across every similar-looking shirt.
If professional care or clarification is needed, use an appropriate qualified source for the actual item. The notebook's job is to preserve information, not to turn an uncertain interpretation into a technical instruction.
Update the record deliberately
If the shirt is later lent, altered or passed on, keep relevant information honest about its current state. Do not claim a complete original record where part is missing. A useful composition note remains modest and traceable: it says which garment it describes, where the information came from and which parts of the account are established, leaving visual preference and personal experience in their own clearly understood roles.
